Lauren

Cute Lauren brought a picture of a cake that I've never seen before and ask me to make it for her.....with a few changes.  This was exciting because it was different with the little appliques and the extra tall middle!  (Have I mentioned I love when I get to make something out of the ordinary?)  I love personalizing the cake with initials and putting something of the couples personality into it!  Makes the finished product mean more.

Made from scratch

Sonia was a lot of fun to work with because she came with a design all her own.  She was worried about how to incorporate the checkered flag design, but it was a must have for her fiance.  ( I love when the guy has a say in it).  I was super thrilled with how this cake turned out!  I love the zebra and something different for each layer.  Thanks Sonia!!  This was a fun one!

Arrrrrgg!

This was a fun cake to make!!!  It was for a neighbor of mine and sweet Robyn always lets me do what I want, just provides me with a theme.  This was for Connor who was turning 5.  He was so excited when I dropped the cake off.  Lots of times with weddings I don't get to see the reaction of the bride so this was fun to see how much he liked his cake!

The Circus Inspirational Photo Shoot was set up by Amanda Schelin with Branches Floral and Design http://www.branchesfloraldesign.com/ and Polka Dots and Daisies Custom Invitations http://www.polkadotsanddaisies.com/.
They were wonderful enough to ask me to participate!  This was a fun cake for me because I was able to create whatever look I desired.  I was very happy with the end result and happy to be a part of this amazing shoot along with all of the other talent!

Lagoon - "It's What Fun Is"

Lagoon asked if I would participate in a Cake Competition to help celebrate their 125 Years of Fun!  Of Course I said YES!  It was a lot of fun.  I was asked to incorporate what I thought was fun about Lagoon and incorporate the theme of 125 years.  I went with a time line theme and started out with a spinning car on top which I'm sure a lot of people don't understand.  I actually didn't learn this fact about Lagoon until doing this cake.  But....back in the day Lagoon used to give away a free car every year.  The more times you went to Lagoon the better your chance was of winning.  In 1959 my Grandparents actually won.  So I wanted to incorporate that because I knew no one else would be using that..And they didn't.  The top tier shows just a few of the big names that came and performed at Lagoon, including Johnny Cash, Beach Boys, Kingston Trio and more.
The Rides I show on the lower tiers are just some of my favorites.  I was especially proud of how my Rattle Snake turned out.  That was a fun and new technique I learned in the process.
This was a nerve racking but great experience.  We were featured on Channel 4 news...I've never been on the news before so that was scary, but glad it's over and happy to say I survived!  Onto the nex thing!!

Wild Wedding

If Mike and I were to have another wedding reception, I would want to do a fun cake like this.  I love how different wedding cakes are becoming!  I have the best job!

Painted Masterpiece

This design picked out by the bride took quite awhile.  Couldn't think of any other way to do it but to paint by hand.  Even the lightest white looking sections are painted with an edible pearl mixture.  There was going to be some wire shooting out of the top with pearls on as well, but unfortunately the brides father thought this cake was too untraditional that they decided to place a bride and groom on top.  I was not able to get a picture with the topper, but yes....this was for a wedding.

Christina

There is a Love/Hate relationship with this cake.  The bride wanted to incorporate different designs from her beautiful dress, and a couple of other cake designs she liked.  Hence...each layer is different.  The ruffle on the top tier caused me the most stress and tim, but it is my FAVORITE part of this cake!

One for the Books

This was a FUN cake to make!  It is unlike anything I've done yet!  It's so much fun when the cake is a representation of the bride and groom, whether it be just their personality or a display of what means something to them!  Thanks Jennifer for letting me make your cake!!

One of my new Favorites!

I was  little nervous for this cake only because I'd never really hand painted on a cake before.  And once it's on......it's on to stay!  But it actually ended up being a ton of fun!  I loved how it turned out.  The quilted look is also very "in" right now, and the red roses are were hand crafted!!

Mad Hatter Cakes

Mad Hatter Cakes are nothing new, but they are definately becoming more and more popular for wedding cakes.  Some couples still love to stick to a "White Wedding" cake, but more often I'm having people order outside the box.  WHICH I LOVE!!  Making any type of cake is fun, but it's exciting to have something different.  Make you learn something different!  This is one of my favorite cakes!  The Bride and Groom were so much fun to meet with.  They new exactly what they wanted and the Groom was actually quite involved.  It was his idea on how to do the Silver Balls.  So Thank you for that!!  They also had one of the layers split in the middle with different filling.  One side was Peanut Butter frosting and the other was Raspberry.  One of the servers at the Wight House Reception Center said it was the best PB and J they'd ever had!

I'm going to do it!

After much deliberating, I've decided to start a blog about my business. So far I have mostly been involved in Wedding cakes but I have started branching out to other specialty cakes and am excited to expand onto yummy desserts! More info on that to come!

My dream is to one day own a shop of my own or have a seperate "office" in my house, but for now I am happy and grateful to have the cooperation and graciousness of the Wight House Reception Center. There I have been alowed to do all of my decorating and preparing. I have loved working there and appreciate the business it has brought me. I love working with brides and helping them create a cake for their special day! I especially love those brides who bring me a challenge or something crazy, new and different! I look forward to every cake I get to make and can't wait to get my hands in frosting and powdered sugar. I can't say that my waist size is too pleased with all this cake constantly surrounding me but that's not going to stop me!

I look forward to many more fun, creative and learning experiences with my future cakes!!
