Voodoo Valentines Cookies

It has been awhile since anything has been posted here....

As for today, I am happy to be sharing the latest activity done with the help of the amazing Design Loves Detail.  Here is a link to the project. http://www.designlovesdetail.com/2014/02/06/dld-recipe-my-voodoo-valentine/

I am going to share with you the recipe that was used.  There are lots of recipes that would work, this is just what I did.
Just because it isn't Christmas, doesn't mean you can't have gingerbread cookies.  I was worried that my regular gingerbread recipe would be too dark, since I wanted to see all the detail on the cookies.  So....I made a yummy sugar cookie recipe and added some gingerbread cookie dough to make it a "sort of" gingerbread cookie.  Turned out delicious!

Sugar Cookie (from my mom's cookbook, if you know my mom, you know it's a good one!)

2/3 Cup Crisco
3/4 Cup Sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 egg
4 tsp milk
2 Cups Flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
Thoroughly cream crisco, sugar and vanilla.  Add egg: beat till light and fluffy.  Stir in milk.  Add dry ingredients and blend well.

I then added about 1/4 of my gingerbread cookie dough to the mix. (I won't be sharing that recipe at this time, can't give away all my secrets!)

Chill for 1 hour
On lightly floured surface, roll to 1/8" thick.  Cut into desired shapes.
Bake at 350 for about 8 min.  Cool and decorate.

This project was a lot of fun,  especially with a little twist from the normal Valentines theme of hearts and love.

To all you Gamers

I don't know a man out there that doesn't love him some XBOX. This was for a 40 year old man, so it goes to show you're never too old to still play games.  This was a lot of fun because it had some sculpting and tiny little details.  Everything on this cake is edible.  The controller and the game are made out of yummy rice krispy treats! This cake is the closest I'll be getting to playing the XBOX!

Loving Easter

I was given the honor of making another birthday cake for my cute neighbor Laney.  She loves Easter time, and last year I made a cake revolving around the Easter theme with chicks and eggs.  This year I decided to make her an Easter basket. Practically everything on this cake was edible from the Cake eggs down to the cotton candy filling the basket.  This was so much fun to make because it was my first attempt with the basket weave.
Happy Birthday Laney!!!

Cake Decorating Birthday Party

Eleanor was turning 10 and wanted to have a cake decorating party.....what a great idea!!! I was a little nervous about hosting for 16 young girls, but It was so much fun!!!  Showed them how to make a couple different bows, and flowers, and then let them run wild with the fondant and food coloring.  A lot of them created their own unique flowers and ideas! Each girl got to decorate their own cake and were able to take them home, although some of the girls started munching on their cake before they left.  I want to say thank you to Stephanie (Eleanor's mom) and Eleanor for letting me be a part of her special day!!

Travel

Oh how I LOVE when a client calls and says "I need a cake, and I trust you to do whatever you want".  That's what my friend Chris did with this cake for his wife.  So much fun to make!!!  Thanks Chris and Happy Birthday Lisa!

River Baby

This was a surprise birthday cake for my friend's daughter.  She is 17 and really wanted a Barbie cake because she'd never had one before!  It's been awhile since I've made a cake and I didn't realize how much I was missing decorating.  So I'm happy to be back at it and had tons of fun with this one!!

Baby Annie

I apologize for not updating my blog sooner.  But I've had some more important things going on, like welcoming this beautiful baby into our family!
